Maybe people associate it to the fact that Bengalis consume more sweets in one day than the entire population of Ethiopia eats in a week. Whatever be the reason, non-Bengali folk have a weird fascination with the langue in spite of the fact that their vocabulary in Bangla is limited to 'Ami je tomaar Sometimes though, to the inexperienced non-Bengali, a lot of Bangla words can be a bit confusing; mostly because the same word exists in Hindi and has an entirely different meaning.
Panjabi: In Hindi or in any other language for that matter, a person would think of a Sikh person or think about someone belonging to the state of Punjab, when they hear the word Punjabi. Not in West Bengal. In our parallel universe, the word 'Punjabi' means kurta. Kheer: In Hindi, it means 'kheer'.Swipe tabs html5
In Bangla, it means thickened milk. Closer to 'khoya' or 'mawa'. Choti: In Hindi, the word 'choti can mean either mean mountain peak or a ponytail. Anyhow, the word has something to do with up. Bengalis however don't like 'chaap' at all. Because for us, 'chaap' means pressure and ain't no Bengali keen on taking 'chaap' on their heads. Chul: The Hindi word 'chul' is more of a Delhi thing and it means 'getting sudden urges'. The Bangla word 'chul' is an all across the world thing. It means hair.

Translated by Hockley, Frederick.Baalgod worshipped in many ancient Middle Eastern communitiesespecially among the Canaaniteswho apparently considered him a fertility deity and one of the most important gods in the pantheon. Yet such fluidity in the use of the term baal did not prevent it from being attached to a god of distinct character.
As such, Baal designated the universal god of fertility, and in that capacity his title was Prince, Lord of the Earth. He was also called the Lord of Rain and Dew, the two forms of moisture that were indispensable for fertile soil in Canaan. The tablets, although closely attached to the worship of Baal at his local temple, probably represent Canaanite belief generally.
Fertility was envisaged in terms of seven-year cycles. In the mythology of Canaan, Baal, the god of life and fertility, locked in mortal combat with Motthe god of death and sterility. If Baal triumphed, a seven-year cycle of fertility would ensue; but, if he were vanquished by Mot, seven years of drought and famine would ensue. Ugaritic texts tell of other fertility aspects of Baal, such as his relations with Anathhis consort and sister, and also his siring a divine bull calf from a heifer.

He was also king of the gods, and, to achieve that position, he was portrayed as seizing the divine kingship from Yammthe sea god. Baal persuaded Asherah to intercede with her husband Elthe head of the pantheon, to authorize the construction of a palace.
The god of arts and crafts, Kotharthen proceeded to build for Baal the most beautiful of palaces which spread over an area of 10, acres.
The worship of Baal was popular in Egypt from the later New Kingdom in about bce to its end bce. Through the influence of the Aramaeans, who borrowed the Babylonian pronunciation Belthe god ultimately became known as the Greek Belos, identified with Zeus.
Baal was also worshipped by various communities as a local god. It is not known to what extent the Canaanites considered those various Baalim identical, but the Baal of Ugarit does not seem to have confined his activities to one city, and doubtless other communities agreed in giving him cosmic scope. What made the very name Baal anathema to the Israelites was the program of Jezebelin the 9th century bceto introduce into Israel her Phoenician cult of Baal in opposition to the official worship of Yahweh I Kings Article Media.
